These settings are stored in the registry and can be modified, only it is difficult to find the right key to modify. EasyMTU searches for the TCP/IP protocol binded to your dial-up adapter and changes only these settings, so other elements of your registry (like your network adapter) are unaltered. It has a simple, automatic calculating option so everybody can use it and try the optimal settings.

  • FTP Explorer
     -  Come and see the newest helpful hints and tips, download the latest version (at a much improved speed), talk with other users, subscribe to the mailing list, submit a suggestion, or just admire the cool graphics.

Welcome to one of the most versatile, and powerful, yet easy to use FTP programs available today!

FTP Explorer is a 32-bit FTP application that is extremely simple to operate, and makes moving files between the Internet and your computer as simple as local file manipulation.

Several features of FTP Explorer make it stand head and shoulders above most other FTP programs that are currently available.

At a glance, some of these advanced features are:

Download or upload files to one or more servers while browsing and selecting files to transfer on another. That's right!, FTP Explorer handles all file transfer requests in the background, so you don't have to wait while files copy to continue browsing the current server - you can even connect to a different server, and the program will automatically log off of the original server once the requested transfer has completed.

Can't connect? Not to worry. FTP Explorer will automatically retry if the connection attempt fails. You can configure the number of times it should try to connect, and the time delay between connection attempts.

Support for resuming interrupted file transfers. FTP Explorer attempts to resume a file transfer if it detects a file with the same name in the current download directory. This can save you time and connection costs for those troublesome connections. (Note: not all ftp servers support this option.)

No more searching through that index file for the entry you're looking for. FTP Explorer can automatically download and display the proper description of each file with the file that it describes. As an option, the program will automatically download the index file on the server and display the file descriptions next to the appropriate files while you browse. Several standard index file formats are currently supported.

The new Transfer Manager allows you to ascertain the details of download or upload requests at a glance. The source, destination, and status of each request is detailed in the Transfer Manager window to keep you apprised of multiple connections, and make it easy to see which files have been transferred.

Create file or directory FTP shortcuts on your desktop to launch FTP Explorer and automatically connect to your most commonly visited FTP sites.

Like icons? Like descriptions? No problem. FTP Explorer uses the Windows 95 style list boxes for displaying the contents of remote servers. Toggle between large icons, small icons, lists, or full descriptions of the files you are browsing. Its intelligent tree view learns the directory structure as it goes.

Windows 95 style right-click menus keep options at your fingertips. The most commonly used options are only a mouse click away. Menu options change based on the type of file or directory that is highlighted.

Intelligent Command Queue enables background completion of each command, so you don't have to wait on directory listings!. Once connected to a server, FTP Explorer maintains a list of commands to carry out which makes listing files and searching the server much faster. Select the directories that you want to browse as soon as you connect, and FTP Explorer will go to work downloading the directory information and listing its contents in the background while you continue to browse. As each directory listing is completed, its color changes to let you know you can view it without any delay.

This thing caches it all! Each connection is cached in memory, so moving back one or more directory takes a fraction of the time that is necessary with most FTP programs. It also has an option to cache entire sites so that you may peruse the site off-line, then automatically connect when a download or upload us initiated.

The Quick Connect option lets you immediately connect to a site without having to go through the usual song-and-dance of adding a site to the profile list.

Support for fpArchie is also included with FTP Explorer.

Full Drag and Drop support. Simply drag one or more files - or complete directory structures -- onto the FTP Explorer's file view area to transfer them to the location of the server that is currently connected. Receiving files is also as simple as dragging one or more files (or directories) onto your desktop, or any other folder.

  • The Handy Dandy Analogx Whois Ultra
     -  Call me old fashion, but I don't like those new web-based whois utilities, and now with the changes Network Solutions made to the way whois works, they're next to useless. Maybe it's the banner ads, maybe it's the fact that they're loaded down with useless information (like .net and .org are available), or maybe it's just that they're slower than molasses. Of course, the good old days of the command line interface are dead, so how about a nice little GUI? Enter AnalogX WhoIs ULTRA - the next evolution!

AnalogX WhoIs ULTRA let's you do the basics, like see who registered a site and their contact information, but it doesn't just stop there... Looking for a new domain name? Just type in a keyword, and WhoIs ULTRA will try a whole slew of possible combinations - that you can customize! It then returns a simple list that let's you see which ones are taken, and which ones are available. You can then generate a report about the search you've performed, so you can look it over at a later date.

For the more advanced users, there is a config window, which allows you to tweak the way WhoIs ULTRA performs. You can toggle whether or not it checks .com's, .net's, or .org's, or even other top level domains (TLD's) such as .co.uk or .de when you are performing a keyword match. You can also change what happens when you doubleclick on a result - have it open a web browser on that page, copy the URL into the clipboard, or even view the returned text from the whois query (you can also select any of these by right-clicking on a selection)! You can change whether or not it appends any new searches onto the existing one - this is very handy when you want to perform multiple searches, and see the results all on one page. Finally, it supports a custom server for each TLD, meaning it's simple to just add any new TLD's when they become available.

If you're processing a large number of combo's, or a large list that you've loaded in, you will want to be aware of the new Lookup Mode options in the config. By default (Normal), WhoIs ULTRA will return all the information available on a domain name, who registered it, etc - if you're just checking a list, you may not be interested in this kind of information, and that's where UltraScan comes in. With UltraScan set as the Lookup Mode, it is about 5x-10x faster than Normal Lookup, and consumes far less memory than would be for processing large lists.

If you want to check a group of domain names, you can also choose to 'load' them; this simply loads up a listing of domain names or keywords, each one on a new line, and performs a whois on them. This is especially handy when you have a very large amount of domains to check, and don't want to have to periodically check the results.

When you've gotten your results, you can also click on the column titles in order to have the program automatically sort the results. This sorting will also be reflected in the reports it generates, so it's a great way to have all the available domains grouped together.

So now that you have the hang of the program, and now want to tweak it even more, let's talk a little about the 'whois.dat' file, which contains the info about the combinations that the program tries... Simply put a '*' asterisk wherever you want the keyword to be inserted; so if you are searching for a keyword like 'security', and you would like it to automatically check for some- thing like securityweb, you would add '*web' to the dat file. You could also add 'web*', which would translate to websecurity, or even 'web*site', which would become websecuritysite! In the config, you can also optionally choose to enable 'Dash' combo's as well - this simple means that in the above example not only would it check for securityweb and websecurity, but security-web and web-security; this is especially handy in giving you more matches.
