How To Fix The Drain Problems And Find Out If Your Samsung Galaxy S3 Is Affected

10:11:00 PM |

Samsung's Galaxy S3 has become one of the leading smartphones on the market, hitting the 10 million-unit sales mark in less than two months after its launch. Although the device has been dubbed as the Korea-based company's flagship smartphone of 2012, it does come with its share of issues.
For an owner of the Galaxy S3, this means the phone may incorrectly display a 50 percent to 70 percent battery drain, as Auto-O-Mobile has pointed out.
Users experiencing this problem can fix it by changing the power_profile.xml file located in the framework-res package. To do this, complete the following steps:
-- Download the updated file (510kb) from MediaFire.
-- Save the file on your microSD card or internal storage.
-- Reboot your Samsung Galaxy S3 into ClockWork Mod (CWM) Recovery Mode.
-- Choose "Install zip from SD card" and select the downloaded file.
-- Reboot your device. This should solve the battery drain issue.
Of course, there is a possibility this process could lead to a voiding of the device's warranty.

How to improve HTC One X battery life?

9:55:00 PM |

Reduce display brightness
HTC One X big 4.7″ 720p HD Super LCD2 IPS display is the biggest battery life eater of all. By disable Automatic brightness and set it to the lowest level that you need will improve battery life a lot.

Remove unused widget
The more widget you have, the more battery life will be eaten especially those widgets that use data connection and auto sync based on schedule like HTC Weather. Therefore, only keep those widgets that you really need.

Poor signal decrease battery life
Phone will use more power to increase signal strength. Always make sure that your phone has a good signal reception. Switch to 2G if 3G connection signal is poor at your area.

Turn off 3G data connection, use Wi-Fi
Always gets connected with Wi-Fi when available. 3G data connection eats more battery compare to Wi-Fi connection. Turn off both of them when not needed.

Disable / reduce auto-sync
Data connection eats battery life. Disable or reduce background scheduled auto-sync applications like Gmail, Twitter. And reduce the frequency of auto-sync will also help to improve battery life too.

Turn off Bluetooth & GPS
If you don’t use Bluetooth or GPS, turn them off. Only turn on them when needed.

Disable unused bundle applications
You can freeze HTC bundle software like AMPed 2.0, deF!ND, Mobile TV, My SingTel, SingTel IDEAS and Starhub MUSIC if you don’t need them. Why? They are running as service even you are not using them at all.

Fully close application that not use
Letting lot of applications running at background actually increase battery usage because they still require CPU processing. So fully close those applications that not needed.

How to increase Samsung Galaxy S3 battery life?

9:50:00 PM |

How to increase Samsung Galaxy S3 battery life? In short, disable those stuffs that you don’t use.
Turn on all Power saving settings

Samsung Galaxy S3 has several power saving settings like CPU power saving, screen power saving, background colour and turn off haptic feedback. Turn on those that acceptable to you only because performance will be decreased and user experience will be affected too.

Reduce display brightness
By default, Samsung Galaxy S3 has lower auto brightness value. This help to improve battery life as HD Super AMOLED eats lot of battery. However, you can further improve by set brightness to the lowest level that acceptable to you.

Remove unused widget
Widgets are nice on Android. But they are battery eaters especially those widgets that use data connection and auto sync based on schedule. Therefore, only keep those widgets that you really need.

Poor signal decrease battery life
Phone will use more power when signal is weak because it uses more power to increase signal strength. Always make sure that your phone has a good signal reception. Switch to 2G if 3G connection signal is poor at your area.

Use Wi-Fi when available
Always gets connected with Wi-Fi when available and turn off 3G data connection.

Turn off Bluetooth, GPS
If you don’t use Bluetooth or GPS, turn them off. Turn them on when needed only.

Turn off motion sensor
Samsung Galaxy S3 has lot of Motion features like Direct call, Smart alert, Tap to top, Tilt to zoom, Pan to move icon, Pan to browse images, Shake to update and Turn over to mute/pause. Only activate those you need.

Use solid black static wallpaper
Samsung Galaxy S3 HD Super AMOLED uses less power on solid black wallpaper because less backlight is output. And try not to use beautiful live wallpaper. Why? Lovely animated live wallpaper costs you more CPU power usage == lower battery life.

Fully close application that not use
SGS3 is a great multitasking machine. But by letting lot of applications running at background actually increase battery usage because they still require CPU processing. So fully close those applications that not needed. Example, GPS navigation application.

Disable unused built-in system applications
You can disable Samsung bundle software like ChatON, S Voice, Game Hub if you don’t need them with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich disable application feature. Why? Some of them are running as service even you are not using them at all.

Undervolt and underclock CPU
Besides display, SGS3 CPU is the second biggest battery eater. If you don’t need 1.4 GHz processing power, underclock it. And undervolt Samsung Galaxy S3 with SetCPU.

How to root your Samsung Galaxy S3

9:43:00 PM |

First: Make sure that your device is a Samsung GT-i9300 and not one of the many carrier specific devices on the market
To check tap 'Menu'
Select 'Settings'
Choose 'About Device'
You will see an option marked ‘Model Number'
If it doesn't say ‘GT-i9300' or includes supplementary numbers or letters you should do some further research, as this guide - which comes courtesy of the users over at XDA  Developers Forum - may not work for you
Next, before we go into things any deeper, you should make sure you have version 1.85 of ODIN, Samsung's smartphone software management tool - it can be downloaded from here (forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=581913&d=1304094576)
Once the download has completed, install ODIN
You should also grab the CF-Root-SGS3-v6.0 package - it can be grabbed here (http://download.chainfire.eu/185/CF-Root/SGS3/CF-Root-SGS3-v6.0.zip)
After your download completes unzip the file and place the resulting .tar file somewhere memorable, we recommend your desktop
Do not plug your Samsung Galaxy S3 into your computer yet
Open ODIN
Click the button marked ‘PDA'
Choose the .tar file you unzipped earlier
Next, we're going to need to put your Galaxy S3 into download mode, and we achieve this by switching the device off, waiting 10 seconds and then switching it back on again whilst simultaneously holding down 'Home', ‘Volume Down' and the ‘Power' key
Once you've done that, plug your device into your computer
Before you continue, make sure ‘Repartition' isn't ticked
Click "Start"
Wait a moment
Ensure that you do not unplug your device as this may result in damage
Once the procedure is complete your device will be rooted

Root Huawei Mercury (M886)

12:09:00 AM |

All credit goes to Tilbert at UnleashedPrepaids.com for finding how to root the Mercury, and Salas from CricketUsers.com for posting this information.

I thought this should be posted on this site, as it is the main site I go to for everything Android. The Mercury is the newest Android from Cricket and is worth talking about since it has a 1.4GHz Snapdragon CPU, FFC, 8MP camera with LED flash, HD video recording, and a 4" FWVGA capacitive touch-screen. I also think that there should be a forum created for this phone.

MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL THE STEPS BEFORE STARTING!! Additional setups may be required!!
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU MESSING UP YOUR PHONE BY FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS!!!
If your not comfortable with the procedure then don't do it!!!
I'm sure it won't be long before someone smarter than me figures out a one-click method for root.

1. First download su, busybox and Superuser.apk
mediafire.com/?or723znkep9s3o3
2. Use ADB to push these 3 files to /data/local/tmp

3. In ADB shell:

$ chmod 6755 /data/local/tmp/su$ chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/busybox$ chmod 644 /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk

4. Shut down phone with the power button/menu.

5. Holding the Vol+ AND Vol- AND Power together when the phone is off will put the phone into a mode that gives you a BRIGHT purple screen....
this is good! Nothing should be happening, just a static purple screen.

6. THIS NEXT STEP HAS TO BE DONE FROM A LINUX DISTRO!
Plug the phone into the computer through USB and you will notice that you can access all of the partitions of the phone with full R/W.
Browse to /data/local/tmp and move su and busybox to /system/bin/
Move Superuser.apk to /system/app/

7. Unplug the phone from USB.

8. Pull the battery out, put it back in, boot the phone normally and ENJOY YOUR NEWLY ROOTED MERCURY!!!

Some notes:
Superuser.apk will need to be updated (found on market).
From inside the Superuser app: update the su binary's.
Download the BusyBox installer from the market and update busybox to the latest version.

===================or==================

Rooting after updating stock to 2.3.5/2.3.6 (or using a phone with 2.3.5/2.3.6 preinstalled) is definitely possible. The issue is that it can't be done via stock recovery because they changed something in the update to try to prevent unofficial updating zips.

I've done this several times to confirm it working.

You'll need to download the root update.zip posted elsewhere in this forum. If you don't feel like search for it, click here to download.

After copying the update.zip needed to root (top level) onto your sdcard, follow this process (it's the only process that actually worked for me, after trying a frustrating number of possibilities); to navigate recovery, use the volume buttons, the menu OR power button (as the enter/select key), and the back button.

  • If you haven't already, install CWM via your favorite method (if you don't have a favorite, I recommend fastboot).
  • Boot into CWM (while the phone is off, hold Volume Up + Power for 10 seconds).
  • Go to Advanced menu.
  • Wipe Dalvik, confirm.
  • Fix permissions.
  • Return to main menu.
  • Wipe cache, confirm.
  • Choose "apply update from sdcard", confirm.
  • Reboot.

Rebooting may take awhile since Dalvik was wiped (dunno why it's needed, but it is). Afterward, however, it should be rooted. To double check, go into your app drawer, and you should see the Superuser app -- the stock launcher will place it on the last panel.

If it doesn't work, try again in case you skipped something by accident.

If it still won't work, back up any important data on your phone. For step 7, instead selecting 'wipe data', choose 'wipe data/factory reset'.

How to Root Galaxy Ace S5830 that runs Gingerbread 2.3.6 DDKQ8 ROM

3:21:00 PM |

If you own a Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 running on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread DDKQ5 or DDKQ6 version, you can now easily root your device. If you are unsure what version your phone is running, you can verify by heading to Settings >About Phone> Firmware Version, in which you can find valuable information on what type of firmware version your device has.
What is Rooting? For those of you who are not familiar with rooting, it is like jailbreaking your phone to support neat new features normally not found on a smartphone. There are many benefits you can have once you gain root access on your device. For example, you can make your phone run faster, install custom ROMs, and install (sideload) applications from third-party sources.
Along with great functionalities and features rooting has to offer, it also has some downsides. Once you root your device, you are also (possibly) voiding its warranty. Although, there is usually the option of unrooting your device by updating it with a stock ROM. Overall, rooting can be a win-win situation.
Prerequisites
  • Just in case your phone data, call log, text messages, and media files get erased in the process, you need to backup those files as a precautionary measure.
  • In order for the rooting process to begin, it is highly suggested that you need to at least charge your phone to 60%.
  • You also need to enable USB Debugging on your phone. This can be enabled by heading to Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
  • Lastly, close all potentially conflicting applications on your computer such as antivirus software, Samsung Kies PC Suite, and firewall software as they tend to disrupt or block the rooting process. If you do have other unnecessary applications that cause your phone delays, you should uninstall them or remove them as well.
Once the necessary preparations have been done, you are now ready to proceed to the rooting instructions.
Rooting Instructions
  1. Download the latest Galaxy ACE Rooting Package to your computer. Get the file here (about 925 KB).
  2. Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable.
  3. Copy the downloaded ZIP file to your phone’s SD card without renaming or modifying the file.
  4. Reboot into recovery mode. Turn off your phone. Then, simultaneously press and hold the Volume Up + OK button, and press the Power button.
  5. Your phone will boot to the recovery mode screen. From here, choose “Install zip from SD Card” and select “Choose Zip from SD”.
  6. Using the Volume Up and Volume Down keys, locate the ZIP file that you just copied to your SD card (the one named “upd_1.zip”). Press the Power button to select it.
  7. Wait for about 5 – 10 minutes for the rooting process to finish.
  8. Once the rooting process is done, your phone will automatically reboot. If it fails to do so, head back to the main menu by selecting “++++ Go Back ++++” and select “Reboot System Now” to manually reboot your phone.
That was it; congratulations, as the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 that runs the Gingerbread 2.3.6 DDKQ8 ROM is now rooted. You can now flash custom ROMs on your device or install different complex applications.
