Hotkeys can make your life easier and faster. Personally, I’m not a fan of these keyboard combinations from the previous version of Windows (98, 2000 and XP).

Windows 7 perhaps changed my mind and attitude towards these secret keys. Why? you can check my previous article.

The Good Thing
Windows Seven default Start Menu button was changed to Shutdown mode instead of hibernate. Thankfully, Microsoft listen to thousands of users asking why.

Compilation of several quick tips that I remember to shutdown your Windows Machine easily

Windows 2000/XP (my favorite shutdown key!)
Win + u + u Win = Windows Key
Ctrl-Esc + u + u
If the classic start menu is enabled: Win + u + Enter will work especially in Windows 2000.

Windows Vista
Change first the Start Menu Shutdown Button to Shutdown mode instead of Hibernate: press Win+R > type cmd > once the command prompt is open, type powercfg.cpl,1

and simply change the start menu button settings to shutdown.
Shortcut Key:
Win + Right Arrow + Enter
            or
Ctrl-Esc + Right Arrow + Enter
That’s it.

Windows 7
Since, Shutdown mode now is the default… The same in Vista,
simply press
Win + Right + Enter
Additional Tip: You can also create a shutdown shortcut in Desktop and simply assign your preferred shortcut key in the Properties.

or just drag the created shortcut key to Quick launch bar in Windows Vista and use the Quick launch bar shortcut key that corresponds to its position. e.g. Win+2.
