Installation requires access to a resource that is currently locked

Error: "To continue the installation make sure the network control panel is closed..." or "Installation requires access to a resource that is currently locked..." when I install a Norton product

In the error message window, click Continue. If you do not have that option, go to Step 1.

Restart and reinstall your Norton product

  1. Exit all programs and then restart the computer.
  2. Reinstall your Norton product.
    If the problem persists, go to Step 2.

Enable the Remote Procedure Call service

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type the following text, and then press Enter.
    If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.
  3. In the Services box, locate and double-click the Remote Procedure Callservice.
  4. To the right of Startup type, verify that Automatic appears. If Startup type is not Automatic, then in the drop-down list, click Automatic.
  5. To the right of Service Status, verify that Started appears. If the Service status is not Started, then click Start.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Exit the Services window.
  8. Reinstall your Norton product.
